The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has sent fans on a wild ride over the past decade. The cancellation of ‘Batgirl’ has shaken fans’ faith in the DCEU
Looking ahead, DCEU fans might have had cause for hope. The schedule looked like it was going somewhere, with the multiverse coming into play and new heroes joining the fight. However, some questions remained. For example, is Henry Cavill still Superman? Want Zack Snyder’s Justice League be considered canon? And if so, is the “Snyderverse” really dead?
Fans may not have had these answers yet, but it seemed like they were coming. Then, according to Variety, Warner Bros. canceled Discovery bat girl, despite the completion of filming. Suddenly everything feels up in the air again, with no clear picture of how strategy is going or if the DCEU would instead be completely scrapped for something brand new.
Which movies are staying in the DC Extended Universe schedule?

That Shazam! and Aquaman Sequels seem like the safest bets, especially the latter given its predecessor’s $1 billion box office earnings in 2018. The Lightning is perhaps most in flux right now, with star Ezra Miller’s personal life overshadowing the hype surrounding the film.
Black Adam could have an impact on what the long-term plan looks like
In the meantime, Black Adam could surprisingly have profound implications for the DCEU in the future. If it’s a hit, star Dwayne Johnson will likely become a pivotal part of the franchise. And it may fall to his character to hold the larger DCEU together in the near future. After all, Black Adam is a key nemesis for Shazam (Zachary Levi), though Johnson keeps brewing a confrontation with Superman.
Though DC was poised to step up its films in 2022, there have been ongoing delays and controversy, like the recent one regarding bat girl‘Cancellation prevented this. Perhaps if Warner Bros. Discovery can agree on how much they’re willing to commit to the DCEU, the franchise can get back on track sooner rather than later.
